What makes the coast of Maine so beautiful to explore, you ask? We think it’s the magical intersection of mountains and sea, a natural beauty with breathtaking views to experience from every angle. As a four-season destination, there are countless options for recreation – from swimming to snowboarding and everything in between. Here at the Bay View Collection, our staff members include a number of avid, year-round bikers. So we’re ready to welcome you for your biking getaway through the snow, sand, mud, and dirt of our favorite bike trails of midcoast Maine!

Bike Ragged Mountain
The name may sound familiar because it’s home of the Camden Snow Bowl, but with over bike 40 trails, most of which are open throughout the year, you’ll find a rewarding challenge for beginner to advanced riders. For those just starting out, we recommend Round the Mountain, a 5.5 mile beginner out-and-back trip that offers connectors to other trails along the way.
Biking at Thomaston Town Forest
Part of the George River Land Trust, the Thomaston Town Forest section of the Georges Highland Path passes through the 500-acre town forest that lies to the east of the Oyster River. With 11-miles of hiking and biking accessibility, these moderate to advanced trails are perfect if you love seeing wildlife and natural habitat. You’ll even get to see the split rock, a huge glacial erratic!
The Multi-Use Trail
Located 15 minutes north of Camden, this five mile trail acts as the connector for all of Camden Hills State Park. Bikers have the option to bike the entire trail with friendly terrain, accessible to runners and walkers alike, or exploring the numerous side trails that the Camden Hills State Park has to offer. Are you up for the challenge?
Pro Tips for the Midcoast Maine Bike Trails
Before you hit the road, there’s a few things you’ll want to have on hand, depending on the time of year. In warmer weather, ticks love to be out in the woods as much as we do. So make sure to take precautions and give yourself the once over when you return home. During hunting season (roughly October to December) many trails are open to hunters. So make sure to wear orange!

Finally, if you’re in town without your wheels, head on over to Maine Sport Outfitters where you can buy or rent a bike that will best fit the needs of your excursion. Their heavy-duty mountain bikes are equipped to keep you on the trails all year. We recommend testing out a “fat bike”. With tires ranging from 3-5 inches, the frame is built for exploring in various terrain and weather conditions, making them the perfect four-season bike. And their low-pressure allows riders to glide across compacted surfaces with excellent traction. Maine Sport offers one-day, multi-day, and weekly rentals, as well as repairs and tuning services.
